Don’t do the audio tour in English. The experience was ruined by frequent silly humour between the two guides, a young lady and pompous old noble who sounds like he is trying to imitate upper class stereotypes. It would be better to do some background reading on Mdina and visit the locations by yourself, taking your time. The audio guide offers a bit of information but the tone is so self-indulgent that instead of amusing you it just slows down things down. More background information should have replaced the humour. A walled city dating back to BC, and the capital of Malta until the mid’s. We had a quick stop here on a bus tour of the island. We would have liked to have had an hour to explore. This place is really worth to spend a day walking around through all the small streets and looking around on all the cultural places, to stop on a street cafe for a refreshment and a icecream.
This was a feature of many of the earliest clocks dating from Medieval times. Mdina glass, at least when purchased at its source, was surprisingly inexpensive.
I loved Mdina. It is just so pretty, and every time I turned a corner there was a perfect picture to be taken. It was also very interesting to find out more of its history in the Mdina experience. There are museums etc to visit, but its lovely to just walk around and soak up the atmosphere. The honey coloured stone that the buildings are made of just gloome in the evening sun, absolutely lovely! Even in mid October this city was still fairly busy with tourists but was lovely just the same.
We lost ourselves in the old streets off the main routes and had quite a peaceful walk around taking photos. The city was used to film several scenes in series 1 of Game of Thrones so I can see why it has become popular with tourists. One the main bridge as you come in and another a square. It was lovely to see both in their natural states. I visited the Mdina glass shop and bought a few presents for family. Some lovely pieces – price ranged depending on the piece.
If you’re in Malta and fancy a slower paced day and a bit of history then this is definitely worth a visit. A charming little old city wi5h loads of attractions mainly the cathedral and the many chapels.
